Delhi proposes major increase in agricultural land circle rates

The Delhi and central governments are considering a significant revision of agricultural land circle rates, marking the first major update in approximately 18 years. The proposal aims to bridge the widening gap between current government valuations and actual market prices to increase transparency and curb illegal transactions.

Under the proposal, rates in South Delhi and New Delhi districts could reach as high as ₹5 crore per acre. Other proposed rates include ₹3.5 crore per acre in South-West Delhi, ₹3 crore in North, West, and North-West Delhi, and ₹2.5 crore in Central Delhi. The lowest proposed rates, approximately ₹2.25 crore per acre, are suggested for East, North-East, and Shahdara regions.

While the increase will raise the cost of land registration and stamp duty for buyers, it is expected to benefit farmers, as land acquisition compensation is determined by these official rates. The move is also linked to the Delhi Master Plan 2047.
