Delhi protests escalate amid allegations of assault and electoral roll controversy

Delhi has seen intense political unrest as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and various opposition groups protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Violence erupted during the demonstrations. Delhi Police arrested four men, allegedly linked to the Hindu Raksha Dal, following a viral video showing them assaulting students and women on DDU Marg. Meanwhile, the BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of manhandling a pregnant journalist, Richa Parashar, during the protests, an allegation Gandhi's party has not substantiated.

In response to the crackdown, protesters have alleged police misconduct, including the physical assault of detainees in custody, the forced seizure and deletion of mobile phone data, and the use of specialized buses to transport detainees to isolated locations. Rahul Gandhi has further escalated tensions by claiming that approximately 200 government officials from agencies such as the ED, CBI, and MEA are providing internal information to the Opposition.
