Delhi ramps up security for Independence Day after Red Fort blast

Ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Delhi authorities have intensified security measures following the November 2025 Red Fort blast that killed at least 13 people. Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar ordered a special drive to verify documentation of used‑car dealers, targeting vehicles that may be linked to the attack, such as a Hyundai i20 that changed hands without proper ownership transfer. Simultaneously, the Red Fort has been transformed into a high‑security zone: the monument is closed to visitors, barricades, scaffolding and temporary tents have been erected, and police and other agencies are monitoring all entry points. The Archaeological Survey of India has overseen the closure, while the police keep watch on individuals with pending Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act cases. These steps aim to prevent further incidents and ensure a safe ceremony on August 15.
