Delhi schoolgirl dies following alleged punishment in the sun

A 10-year-old girl, identified as Anvi, has died following allegations that she was subjected to harsh punishment at a government school in Delhi. The incident occurred at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in the Kalyanpuri/Vinod Nagar area of East Delhi.

The girl's family alleges she was made to stand in the scorching sun for several hours as punishment for forgetting to bring her books to class. According to the family, the child's condition deteriorated while at school, leading to her collapse. Although she was rushed to a hospital, she died while undergoing medical treatment.

Delhi Police stated that the family did not initially allege corporal punishment when the body was handed over, but raised these claims after the cremation. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the death to determine if the alleged punishment contributed to her medical condition. The incident has sparked local protests and raised concerns regarding the violation of Section 17 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, which prohibits physical punishment and mental harassment in schools.
