Delhi Schools Remain Open Amid Kanwar Yatra Disruptions

Heavy rain fell across Delhi-NCR on August 6, but the Delhi government did not declare a city‑wide holiday, and schools in the capital continued regular classes. The India Meteorological Department warned of light to moderate showers and possible water‑logging, yet no official suspension of classes was issued.

In contrast, the district administration of Ghaziabad ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and technical institutes from August 4 to August 12 to manage traffic and ensure safety during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, a Hindu pilgrimage that draws large crowds through the region.

Darul Uloom Deoband, a major Islamic seminary in Saharanpur, issued an advisory to its students to avoid travelling on Kanwar routes and the GT Road, citing recent violent incidents along the pilgrimage path, including attacks on vehicles and vandalism of shops. The seminary emphasized security measures such as identity checks after sunset.

Both authorities highlighted the need for caution and coordination as the Kanwar Yatra, which runs until August 11, continues to affect daily life and movement in parts of Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region.
