Delhi Sets Record 8,748 MW Peak Power Demand Without Outages

New Delhi recorded its highest-ever peak power demand of 8,748 MW on June 29, 2026, surpassing the previous record of 8,656 MW set on June 19, 2024. The load, measured at 3:17 pm, was handled without major outages or transmission failures, officials said.

Power Minister Ashish Sood attributed the achievement to the city’s Power Master Plan and sustained investments in transmission and distribution upgrades. BSES Rajdhani Power supplied 3,906 MW and BSES Yamuna Power supplied 1,876 MW, serving more than 5.44 million consumers (about 22.5 million residents) across Delhi. Around 2,670 MW of the demand was met by green power sources.

The surge came amid unusually warm temperatures, with night-time lows reaching the warmest in four years. State Load Dispatch Centre projections warn that if the heat persists, Delhi’s peak demand could exceed 9,000 MW later this summer.
