Delhi student death investigation follows allegations of school torture

The family of a 12-year-old seventh-grade student, Avni, has filed a complaint following her death in Delhi, alleging she was subjected to torture by a teacher at Sarvodaya Kanya Bal Vidyalaya in Mayur Vihar.

The family claims the student was punished for not bringing a book to class. Allegations include being forced to stand in the sun, being beaten, and being locked in a bathroom. They contend that these incidents caused her health to deteriorate, leading to her death on August 27.

Delhi Police have stated that the student had a history of epilepsy. According to preliminary police reports, the student's health declined during school hours on August 22, and her family was notified. Police noted that the cremation took place on the day of her death and that no formal complaint regarding teacher misconduct had been filed between the alleged incident in late July and her passing.

The Directorate of Education has ordered an investigation into the matter as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
