Delhi students protest for safety as Sri Lanka launches new metro bus service

In Delhi, India, hundreds of female students held a protest near the University of Delhi's Arts Faculty to demand improved safety measures. The demonstration follows a reported sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in the capital within the past week. Protesters called for functional streetlights, increased police patrolling at night, working surveillance cameras, and the clearing of bushes and dark areas near colleges.

In Sri Lanka, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake inaugurated a new fleet of 112 metro buses at the Thalangaama Metro Bus Depot. The initiative, part of the 2025 budget proposal, aims to reduce traffic congestion in Colombo by providing comfortable and safe public transport. The fleet includes 104 newly procured buses and 8 buses provided by the Japanese government. The service will operate across seven main roads, covering approximately 188.7 km, and features a digitalized management and passenger information system.
