Delhi to ban non-BS-VI vehicles from NCR starting November 1

To combat rising winter air pollution, the Delhi government and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) will prohibit the entry of non-Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) compliant vehicles registered outside the capital. The restriction is scheduled to run from November 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027.

The ban is expected to affect over 10 lakh vehicles across the National Capital Region (NCR), specifically impacting commuters and transporters from Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. In Noida and Greater Noida alone, over 4 lakh vehicles are estimated to fall short of the required standards, while Gurugram and Faridabad account for nearly 2 lakh non-compliant vehicles.

Exemptions apply to electric vehicles, CNG-powered vehicles, and essential services such as ambulances and fire tenders. Vehicles registered within Delhi are also exempt from these specific entry restrictions. To enforce the rules, authorities plan to deploy AI-enabled Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at border points and increase physical enforcement with approximately 300 transport department personnel.
