Delhi to enforce ₹10,000 fine for invalid PUC certificates from October 1

The Delhi government has announced a major enforcement drive starting October 1 to combat air pollution by targeting vehicles with invalid or expired Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Drivers of petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles found operating without a valid certificate may face fines of up to ₹10,000.

To support this initiative, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the launch of an Automated Testing Station (ATS) in Burari, designed to handle up to 100,000 vehicle inspections annually. The government is also upgrading the monitoring of PUC centers through technological advancements, including the installation of cameras at all centers to ensure the transparency and reliability of the certification process.

This crackdown is part of a broader effort to manage air quality as the city prepares for the winter season, when pollution levels typically rise. Electric vehicles are currently exempt from these specific PUC requirements.
