Delhi University forces professor into retirement over sexual harassment

Delhi University (DU) has imposed compulsory retirement on a professor from its Department of Political Science after the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) recommended the action in an alleged sexual‑harassment case involving a student. The university’s Executive Council accepted the ICC’s recommendation at its meeting on Thursday.

The complaint is reported to be at least a year old. Under University Grants Commission regulations and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, ICCs are empowered to investigate and advise disciplinary measures. DU officials said the institution maintains a zero‑tolerance policy toward sexual harassment and will continue to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
