Delhi University suspends PhD scholar for alleged professor assault

Delhi University has suspended Shubham Singh, a PhD scholar in the Faculty of Law, following an alleged assault on a professor at Umang Bhawan. The university has also banned Singh from entering any university premises with immediate effect under Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922.

CCTV footage reportedly shows the student waiting for the professor and attacking him as he entered the building. In response to the incident, the university has formed a three-member independent committee to investigate the misconduct.

Delhi Police have registered an FIR at the Maurice Nagar police station, and an investigation is currently underway. The Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) has condemned the assault, stating that the safety and dignity of teachers on campus are being repeatedly compromised by such incidents.
