Delhi Waqf Board seeks utility restoration for Race Course mosque

The Delhi Waqf Board has formally requested the Land and Development Office (L&DO) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to restore electricity and water connections to the Race Course mosque and its adjoining qabristan.

The board’s CEO, Tanvir Ahmad, stated that the utilities were allegedly disconnected on October 7 during demolition and removal activities in the surrounding area. The mosque, which is approximately 300 years old and occupies two bighas, was notified as Waqf property in a 1977 Delhi Administration Official Gazette.

The mosque’s imam, Maulana Haroon Rahi, alleged that officials representing the L&DO ordered him to vacate the premises within three days, threatening the mosque's removal. The Waqf Board noted that, according to available records, the mosque is not subject to any active court cases and has maintained a lawful electricity connection since 1976. The board’s correspondence was also marked to the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
