Delian Peevski defends private flights and seeks full NSO security spending report

Bulgarian political leader Delian Peevski told reporters that his personal life is his own matter after Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev disclosed details of Peevski’s air travel. Demerdzhiev said Peevski had taken 227 flights in eight years, including 181 charter trips, and that six private flights to Istanbul worth €122,000 were paid for by the law firm Anghelov‑Andreev & Partners, not by Peevski himself. Peevski dismissed the relevance of U.S. and U.K. sanctions, saying “no sanction works in Bulgaria.”

Separately, Peevski announced he will request a complete accounting of the State Security Service (NSO) expenses for all individuals protected by the agency since 2013. He will send the request to NSO chief Major General Emil Tonev under the Access to Public Information Act and warned he will take the matter to the Administrative Court if the agency refuses. Peevski argues the data is of “great public and media interest” concerning the duration and cost of security for high‑ranking public officials.
