Bulgaria reveals 226k lev spent on state security for politician Delian Peevski

The Administrative Court in Dobrich ordered the National Security Service (NSO) to disclose its expenditures on the protection of Delian Peevski, leader of the DSB‑New Beginning party. The court‑mandated report shows that between January and October 2025 the NSO spent a total of 226 680 lev on Peevski’s security.

The breakdown includes 182 651 lev for salaries, allowances and travel reimbursements for four NSO officers, and 44 029 lev for vehicle costs, of which about 5 700 lev covered fuel. NSO vehicles covered 8 111 km of the nearly 10 000 km driven, while a party‑provided car was used for the remaining 1 885 km.

The protection was provided not only by the NSO but also by the Specialized Anti‑Terrorist Unit (SOBT) until May 2026. After a change of government, an inter‑agency commission terminated state security for Peevski and GERB leader Boyko Borisov. The disclosure ends a long‑standing dispute over whether the spending, previously claimed to be classified, should be public.
