Deloitte report highlights growth in luxury travel and China's economic duality
A Deloitte report titled “Global Powers of Luxury 2026” indicates a significant shift in the luxury sector, with luxury travel seeing a projected spending increase of 36.2 percent compared to 2025. While the broader travel market faces challenges due to global economic conditions, the ultra-wealthy segment is driving growth through personalized experiences and private tours. Reservations through the Virtuosa system have risen by 59 percent for the autumn period, with even higher growth expected in November.
Simultaneously, China presents a complex economic landscape characterized by both technological advancement and domestic instability. While the nation leads in export industries such as electric vehicles and solar panels, and maintains a high-tech sector competitive with the United States, it continues to face a prolonged real estate crisis. Analysts have noted parallels between China's current property market struggles and Japan's economic situation in the 1990s, raising concerns about unbalanced growth and the potential for a middle-income trap.
