Deloitte senior partner Paolo Gianturco killed in Peru plane crash

Paolo Gianturco, a 59‑year‑old senior partner at Deloitte Consulting, died in a plane crash in Peru together with his wife Cristina and their two young sons. Gianturco led Deloitte’s financial‑services and FinTech initiatives for Italy, Malta and Greece and co‑founded the Deloitte EMEA Blockchain Lab in 2015, overseeing projects on Open Finance, digital banking, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The tragedy prompted statements of grief from Deloitte leadership, including CEO Fabio Pompei, who called Gianturco “one of the firm’s top managers” and highlighted his innovative contributions. Regional officials, such as Basilicata President Vito Bardi, also expressed condolences, noting the loss to the community from Gianturco’s native town of Avigliano. The incident has deeply affected Deloitte’s Italian and European consulting teams and the broader fintech community.
