Deloraine, Tasmania Wins Small Tourism Town Award for 2026

Deloraine in northern Tasmania was named the state's Small Tourism Town for 2026, securing the title for a second consecutive year. The award was presented by the Meander Valley Council and highlighted the town's transformation from a pass‑through stop into a deliberate destination.

Local business owner Mark Flanigan, who runs the Empire Hotel, said the community’s investment in short walks, food, wine and wildlife – including a healthy platypus population – has attracted younger couples and active empty‑nesters year‑round. Visit Northern Tasmania chief executive Tracey Mallett noted that repeat visitation has risen, with overall tourism in northern Tasmania up 23 % compared with two years earlier, driven in part by small‑town experiences like those offered in Deloraine.
