Delphinus cancels acquisition of The Dolphin Company assets in Mexico

Delphinus Blue Planet has withdrawn its bid to acquire all assets of The Dolphin Company in Quintana Roo, Mexico, leaving the future of 101 marine animals uncertain. The group of animals includes 87 dolphins, eight manatees, and six sea lions.

The decision follows the company’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States under its parent entity, Leisure Investments Holdings LLC. Delphinus cited a lack of access to necessary documentation and information required to evaluate the operation as the primary reason for rescinding the agreement signed in July. Other complicating factors included legal disputes regarding representation and judicial measures related to environmental authorities at the Punta Nizuc park.

While the full acquisition was canceled, Delphinus indicated it remains interested in the operation and will analyze individual assets for potential partial acquisition. The animals must remain under care while a destination is determined.
