Delroy Lindo completes filming for directorial debut ‘Jabari’s People’

Actor Delroy Lindo has completed filming for his directorial debut, ‘Jabari’s People’, a family drama set in Jamaica. The production wrapped a 22-day shoot in Kingston.

Written by Daoud Abeid and Dakhil Hausif, the film follows Jabari, a Brooklyn teenager who moves to Jamaica’s Blue Mountains to live with estranged grandparents following his mother’s sudden death. The story explores themes of grief, identity, and family inheritance across three generations.

The cast features Winston Duke as Jabari’s father, Marianne Jean-Baptiste as the grandmother, Wendell Pierce as a doctor, and Delroy Lindo himself as the grandfather. Seyi Andes-Pelumi stars in the lead role of Jabari. Lindo, who originally approached the project as an actor in 2015, purchased the rights in 2021 with the intention of directing the film.
