Delsitanisagua hydroelectric plant begins maintenance

The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (Celec) has begun maintenance work at the Delsitanisagua hydroelectric plant, located in the province of Zamora Chinchipe. The facility has an installed capacity of 180 megawatts (MW).

Scheduled tasks include the removal of accumulated sediments from the reservoir and a semi-annual inspection of generation unit 1 and its GIS bay. The maintenance plan also involves reviewing generation units 1 and 2. To manage environmental impact, Celec is conducting biological water quality monitoring in the Río Blanco, La Fragancia, and Zamora sectors to protect the conditions of the Zamora River.

Celec has socialized these activities with local communities in the area of influence. These infrastructure improvements are part of a broader strategy to ensure the reliability and availability of electrical units ahead of the potential arrival of the El Niño phenomenon. This follows recent maintenance at the Baba hydroelectric plant in Los Ríos province.
