Delta Air Lines expands Basic fare options across premium cabins

Delta Air Lines has broadened its "Basic" fare tier to include its premium cabin products—Delta First, Delta Premium Select and Delta One. The new Basic options offer the same onboard experience as the full‑fare tickets, such as lie‑flat seats and chef‑curated meals, but exclude perks like free seat selection, lounge access and flexible cancellation. Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Joe Esposito said, "This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products."

The fare changes also introduce steep cancellation fees. Customers cancelling a Basic business class ticket may be charged up to $500, while Basic Premium Select and Basic Delta First fares carry fees of $400 and $300 respectively. Domestic Basic Economy and Comfort tickets incur $99 fees, rising to $199 for long‑haul international trips. The structure aims to provide lower‑priced entry to premium cabins while shifting many amenities to higher‑priced tiers.

Delta plans to roll out the Basic premium fares to more routes over the coming months, initially limited to a few markets such as routes to and from Italy.
