Delta Air Lines faces lawsuit from seven relatives after Seattle airport collision

Seven members of a single family are suing Delta Air Lines following a low-speed collision at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in February 2025. The incident involved a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 taxiing behind a stationary Delta Boeing 737. The collision occurred at approximately 2.3 mph.

While the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) initially reported no injuries resulting from the impact, the plaintiffs allege physical harm. Renardo Robertson, the latest to file a federal lawsuit, claims the impact caused his body to strike a console, resulting in lower back injuries that required significant medical care. His wife, daughter, son-in-law, two granddaughters, and brother-in-law have also pursued claims.

The NTSB determined that the Japan Airlines crew failed to maintain sufficient clearance. However, legal experts note that Delta may still face liability under the Montreal Convention for passenger injuries, even though the Japan Airlines aircraft caused the collision.
