Delta Air Lines flight returns to Minneapolis after pilot medical emergency

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 was forced to return to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on August 31 after a pilot experienced a medical emergency. The aircraft had departed for Orlando, Florida, but requested an immediate return approximately four minutes after takeoff due to “potential pilot incapacitation.”

The crew declared an emergency to receive priority handling from air traffic control. The plane landed safely with 178 passengers and seven crew members on board. Delta Air Lines stated that the crew followed established procedures and that the company is focused on supporting the pilot and ensuring onward travel for customers.

A new crew was arranged to complete the flight to Orlando, which arrived later that evening. The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed it will investigate the incident.
