Delta Air Lines Adds Basic Fare Tier to Premium Cabins

Delta Air Lines announced on July 8, 2026 that it is extending its Basic fare model to its premium cabins. The new options – Delta First Basic, Delta Premium Select Basic and a Basic Business fare for Delta One – provide the same onboard product (lie‑flat seats, premium meals, amenity kits) but strip away several perks. Travelers will receive seat assignments only after check‑in, a reduced checked‑bag allowance, lower mileage credit, no complimentary or paid upgrades and must pay a fee for any changes or cancellations. Access to Delta One check‑in, Delta One lounges and Sky Clubs is not included, although tickets purchased before January 18, 2027 will retain lounge access temporarily.

The fares are already available for purchase and are flying on select domestic and Latin American routes immediately; Delta Premium Select Basic and Basic Business will begin service in September 2026 on domestic and long‑haul international markets. “This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
