Delta Air Lines introduces custom Airbus A321neo for NBA charters

Delta Air Lines has begun operating specially configured Airbus A321neo aircraft designed specifically for National Basketball Association (NBA) team travel. These narrowbody jets are part of a fleet renewal program intended to replace older Boeing 757 charter aircraft.

The aircraft feature custom VIP interiors tailored to the needs of athletes, coaches, and support staff. Unlike standard commercial configurations, these planes prioritize space and comfort over passenger density. The interior includes lie-flat sleeping accommodations, spacious reclining seats, and specialized cabin facilities.

Specific cabin layouts include a mini-front cabin with a four-seater configuration and a full-sized table, followed by multiple sections of lie-flat seats and recliner seats. Notably, the forward cabins lack overhead lockers to better accommodate the height of professional basketball players. These aircraft are operated by Delta under a long-standing partnership with the NBA, though the planes are leased by the league from an aviation leasing company.
