Delta Air Lines misroutes passenger's declared firearms
A Delta Air Lines passenger traveling from Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) to San Jose (SJC) discovered that their declared firearms were misrouted to a different airport. The traveler had followed all legal requirements for transporting firearms on a domestic flight, including declaring the items and paying baggage fees.
Staff at the destination terminal traced the error to a misassigned passenger name, as the agent in Minneapolis had registered the bag under a similar-sounding name. The luggage was eventually located at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) after being tracked via an AirTag. The items were recovered after staff cross-referenced physical descriptions and tag numbers.
Misrouting firearms presents significant risks to travelers, including potential legal exposure requiring police or ATF reports, as well as safety and security concerns.
