Delta and Air Canada planes collide at Los Angeles International Airport
Two passenger aircraft collided on the taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday morning, October 6. The incident involved a Delta Air Lines Airbus A350-900 taxiing for departure to Tokyo and an Air Canada Boeing 777 that had recently arrived from Toronto and was being towed toward its gate.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Delta aircraft’s left wingtip struck the horizontal stabilizer of the Air Canada plane. Reports indicate that a portion of the Delta winglet was damaged and remained lodged in the Air Canada aircraft’s tail.
No injuries were reported among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members on the Delta flight or those on the Air Canada flight. Both aircraft have been removed from service for inspections and necessary repairs. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the circumstances of the collision. Airport operations at LAX continued normally following the event.
