Delta Air Lines urged by senators to remain neutral in union drive

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey have urged Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian to maintain neutrality in ongoing unionization efforts by flight attendants. In a letter sent on September 9, the senators argued that the airline's current stance is “threatening flight attendants' future pay and benefits if they choose to organize.”

The senators cited reports of management communications that allegedly suggested unionization could cause “inner turmoil” and pointed to an official anti-union website maintained by the company. They called for a neutrality agreement to ensure employees can organize without interference, intimidation, or retaliation.

Delta Air Lines responded by stating it supports employees' right to decide on union representation and maintains a “strict non-interference policy.” The company emphasized that it respects employee choice and does not tolerate harassment or bullying regarding views on unionization. The organizing campaign, involving the Association of Flight Attendants, has been a multi-year effort by employees at the Atlanta-based carrier.
