Delta City Hall unveils Coast Salish welcome poles

The City of Delta has unveiled two new Coast Salish welcome poles at its city hall to honor the land and recognize the traditions of the region’s host nations. The poles were revealed during a traditional protocol ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The artwork was commissioned in December 2025 and designed by artists Bryce Williams and Karl Morgan of the Tsawwassen First Nation, alongside Thomas Cannell of the Musqueam Indian Band. The two poles, one featuring a male figure and the other a female figure, represent the shared history of the land, water, and wildlife.

Artist Bryce Williams noted that the project aims to build relationships and acknowledge the shared past and future of the community. Thomas Cannell described the female figure as a symbol of his family’s history and the collective care of the land by all Musqueam peoples.
