Delta flight diverts to Las Vegas after rapid 27,000-foot descent

Delta Flight 2311, a Boeing 737-900 traveling from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, was forced to make an emergency diversion to Las Vegas on September 6 following a cabin pressurization issue.

During the flight, which was approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes into its journey at an altitude of roughly 36,200 feet, oxygen masks deployed for the 174 passengers and six crew members on board. The pilots initiated a rapid descent, dropping the aircraft approximately 27,000 feet to 9,000 feet within 10 minutes to reach a safer altitude and prevent hypoxia.

The aircraft landed safely at Harry Reid International Airport. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, and all individuals disembarked normally. Delta stated that the flight crew followed established training and safety procedures to manage the unexpected issue.
