Delta State approves empowerment grants for 15,000 residents
The Delta State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved an empowerment package to support 15,000 indigent residents across the state’s 25 Local Government Areas. The initiative, valued between ₦3.75 billion and ₦4 billion, aims to cushion economic hardship, support micro-businesses, and provide startup capital for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Beneficiaries will receive a one-off cash grant to enhance purchasing power and enable capital expansion for existing trades. In addition to financial aid, the program will include business empowerment training across the three senatorial districts to equip recipients with management skills. The intervention will be implemented through the Delta State Social Investment Programme.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the selection process will be strictly audited to prevent fraud, stating that every recipient must be a verifiable resident. To ensure the integrity of the distribution, the state will maintain comprehensive security measures and verification protocols throughout the exercise.
