Delta State Governor declares zero tolerance for crime

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has announced a zero-tolerance policy toward crime and political violence within the state. During a meeting with the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, at Government House in Asaba, the governor emphasized that security is a fundamental component of his administration’s MORE Agenda.

Oborevwori stated that law enforcement will be applied strictly regardless of an offender’s political affiliation or personal relationship to officials, asserting that “nobody is above the law.” He specifically called for increased surveillance of highways, communities, and waterways, particularly in riverine areas, to combat criminality.

The governor also directed security agencies to intensify efforts to recover illegal firearms and curb the use of rifles by civilians. To support these initiatives, the state government will continue providing logistics and operational vehicles through the Delta State Security Trust Fund. Oborevwori further advocated for community-based policing through increased collaboration between the police, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and vigilante groups.
