Delta State Governor orders probe into political violence in Effurun

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has ordered a security investigation into a violent confrontation that disrupted a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) mobilization march in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The incident occurred during the party’s ‘One Million March’ ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Conflicting allegations have emerged regarding the perpetrators. NDC organizers alleged that political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were responsible for the disruption. Conversely, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo accused NDC thugs of wielding dangerous weapons to loot shops and destroy APC campaign billboards in the community. Keyamo further alleged that some law enforcement officers accompanied the assailants.

The Delta State Government has condemned the violence, with Commissioner Charles Aniagwu stating that the administration is committed to ensuring all political parties can campaign peacefully without intimidation or thuggery.
