Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwri urges diversification beyond oil at 2026 investment summit

Governor Sheriff Oborevwri told delegates at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba that the state can no longer rely solely on oil revenue. He called on local and foreign investors to tap opportunities in agriculture, livestock, the energy ecosystem, the blue economy, transport infrastructure, solid minerals, mining, the digital economy and related legal frameworks. The governor said the summit was deliberately organised as a private‑sector driven platform to connect investors with bankable projects, noting that the state has secured land and undertaken roadshows to China and Brazil to showcase its potential.

Pan‑African scholar Prof. Patrick Lumumba, speaking at the same summit, urged Delta State to look beyond Nigeria and position itself as a globally competitive industrial hub. He highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area as a channel for African manufacturers and warned against the tendency to view investors only from outside the continent, calling for greater participation by African capital in future investment events.
