Delta State imposes movement restriction for Udu bye-election

The Delta State Government has announced a movement restriction in the Udu Local Government Area on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The restriction will be in effect from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm to facilitate the Udu State Constituency House of Assembly bye-election.

According to a statement signed by Commissioner for Public Information Charles Aniagwu, the measure is intended to ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly electoral environment while protecting voters and sensitive election materials. The restriction does not apply to essential workers, authorized election personnel, accredited observers, media, security operatives, emergency responders, or essential service providers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled voting at designated polling units from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. This bye-election is part of a broader legislative exercise occurring across Delta, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kano states. The Udu seat became vacant following the defection of representative Collins Egbetamah from the All Progressives Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
