Delta State: NDC march attacked by suspected political thugs
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned an alleged attack on its ‘One Million-Man March’ in Delta State. The procession, led by governorship candidate Chris Iyovwaye, was reportedly disrupted by individuals identified by organizers as political thugs at several locations, including Warri, Effurun, and Uvwie.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege reported that the march faced multiple obstructions, alleging that APC supporters claimed certain locations were reserved for their own rallies. The violence reportedly included the use of firearms, knives, and other weapons. At Jakpa Road, an individual identified as Collins Ogumashe, also known as ‘Black Moses’, was allegedly disarmed of an AK-47 rifle and handed over to the police.
Reports indicate that the attacks resulted in injuries to participants, with some estimates suggesting over 100 people required medical attention. The Iyovwaye campaign council and Omo-Agege have called for a thorough and transparent investigation by security agencies into the incidents.
