Delta State Police arrest 83 suspects in anti‑crime raids

Delta State Police Command carried out a series of operations across the state aimed at dismantling criminal networks. In Asaba, officers raided identified black‑spot locations, arresting 81 individuals – 50 men and 31 women – for offenses that included possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs such as tramadol and Indian hemp, operating illegal checkpoints and unauthorised taxi parks. Five vehicles were impounded and illegal roadblocks on the River Niger Head Bridge and the Benin‑Asaba Expressway were cleared.

On the Agbarho–Warri Road, the Safer Highway Patrol stopped a grey Mercedes‑Benz carrying two suspects from Port Harcourt. The men, Omini Ezeri (46) and Chinedum Wagbara (42), were detained with two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, nine rounds of live ammunition, about 200 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, a walkie‑talkie, a dagger and a grinder. A third passenger fled the scene. The combined operations resulted in the detention of 83 suspects and the seizure of drugs, firearms and other contraband.
