Delta State Police Thwart Kidnap Plot Targeting Pastor and Retired Principal

Police in Delta State arrested a 26‑year‑old suspect, Jeremiah Kwane, after he tried to recruit a member for a kidnapping scheme aimed at a pastor and a retired school principal in Ughelli. The operation recovered a single‑barrel gun and two live cartridges.

In a separate stop‑and‑search in Effurun, officers from the Ebrumede Division seized two locally made double‑barrel guns, eleven live cartridges, an axe, phones, power banks, wristwatches, a lighter and a camouflage polo, and arrested 28‑year‑old Benjamin Haruna. Two other suspects fled on a motorcycle. Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi said the force would relentlessly pursue kidnappers, armed robbers and other violent criminals and urged the public to provide timely information.
