Delta State road crisis prompts CDHR call for federal action
The Delta State branch of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) has warned that federal roads across Delta State are collapsing, causing hardship for motorists and residents. In a statement signed by CDHR Chairman Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen and Publicity Secretary Nosa Oveseey Godswill, the group urged the Federal Government to intervene urgently, noting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori could provide temporary relief but that responsibility for road maintenance rests with the federal authorities.
The CDHR criticised federal lawmakers, including members of the House of Representatives and Senator Ned Nwoko, for failing to press the government to rehabilitate the infrastructure. It also accused Minister of Works David Umahi of not approving major road projects for Delta and Edo states. The statement referenced former Minister Adams Oshiomhole’s call to prioritise repairing dilapidated roads before launching new projects, and warned that attention to the proposed Anioma State creation is diverting focus from essential road repairs.
