Deltan Dallagnol receives favorable MPE opinion for Senate candidacy

The Electoral Public Ministry (MPE) has issued a favorable opinion regarding the eligibility of former federal deputy and prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol to run for the Senate in 2026. The MPE's position, signed by Regional Electoral Prosecutor Marcelo Godoy, argues that Dallagnol's 2023 mandate revocation does not automatically bar him from future elections.

The MPE contends there is insufficient evidence to prove that Dallagnol's resignation from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in 2021 was an attempt to circumvent the ‘Lei da Ficha Limpa’ (Clean Slate Law). While the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) previously ruled that he left the MPF while facing administrative proceedings that could have led to dismissal, the current opinion suggests the legal grounds for that decision have weakened and do not constitute a permanent disqualification.

The matter now moves to the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR), which will evaluate Dallagnol's Request for Declaration of Eligibility (RDE). The MPE has also requested that the Court reject challenges filed by Unidade Popular and the Federação Brasil da Esperança.
