DEM Party calls for justice regarding 2014 Kobani events

The DEM Party has issued a call for the truth regarding the October 6-8, 2014, events to be revealed and for the immediate release of political figures detained in the Kobani case. The party demanded that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rulings be implemented to end what it describes as unlawful trials.

The 2014 protests, sparked by the siege of Kobani by ISIS, resulted in widespread violence across many Turkish cities, including Diyarbakır. Official data indicates 37 deaths and 761 injuries, while the Human Rights Association reported 46 fatalities. The unrest caused significant damage to public infrastructure, including the destruction of 197 schools and 269 public buildings.

Among those sentenced in the ongoing Kobani case are former HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. The DEM Party emphasized that achieving justice and uncovering the full dimensions of the events is essential for social peace and a democratic future.
