DEM Party calls for legal steps to secure Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom

Members of the DEM Party have called for legal steps to secure the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, marking the anniversary of his removal from Syria. During demonstrations in Diyarbakır and Tunceli, party representatives argued that a lasting peace and a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue are impossible without Öcalan’s physical freedom and improved communication rights.

DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Serhat Eren emphasized that legal regulations regarding democratic reforms and the status of political prisoners must be implemented without delay. He noted that for a democratic negotiation process to function on equal terms, Öcalan must have the ability to communicate freely with society.

In Tunceli, MP Ayten Kordu and local officials stated that waiting for a democratic society process without addressing Öcalan’s conditions is a mistake. They called for the constitutional protection of Kurdish identity and the removal of obstacles to democratic politics, asserting that Öcalan’s freedom is a historical necessity for an honorable peace.
