DEM Party signals new phase for peace process following October MGK meeting

DEM Party leaders have indicated that high-level discussions are ongoing between the state and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan stated that a new phase of the process could begin following the National Security Council (MGK) meeting scheduled for October.

Bakırhan emphasized that for the process to progress, conditions must be established for Öcalan to play a role in both disarmament and political engagement, including ensuring his freedom of communication and working conditions. He noted that while the process has faced challenges due to regional developments, there is a sense of hope.

In a related development, DEM Party MP Sırrı Sakık met with former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş. Sakık called for the immediate implementation of decisions made by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the Constitutional Court regarding Demirtaş, arguing that political freedom is essential for a genuine peace process in Turkey.
