DEME awarded contract to install foundations for Netherlands' Zeevonk offshore wind farm

Belgian marine contractor DEME has been awarded a contract by the Zeevonk joint venture of Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to transport and install foundations for the first phase of the 2 GW offshore wind project off the Dutch coast. The contract, valued between $170 million and $340 million, covers the intermediate transport of monopiles, marshalling of primary and secondary steel, installation of 69 monopile foundations and a filter layer for scour protection. Work will be carried out with DEME’s offshore installation vessel Orion, a jack‑up vessel for secondary steel, and a fall‑pipe vessel for scour protection, at a site 63‑84 km north‑north‑west of Bergen aan Zee.

The first phase of Zeevonk is slated to deliver about 1 GW of capacity by 2029, with construction expected to start in 2028 pending a final investment decision. The project forms part of the Netherlands’ expanding offshore wind portfolio and includes plans for a future electrolyser in the Port of Rotterdam to support green hydrogen production.
