Dementia care and nursing home costs in Germany

Dementia leads to a progressive decline in mental abilities, including memory, language, and orientation. As the disease advances, individuals often require significant assistance with daily tasks.

In Germany, care levels are determined by the Medical Service (Medizinischer Dienst) based on an assessment of need rather than a specific diagnosis. However, those suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's frequently receive care level 3 upon their initial classification. Due to the physical and mental strain of providing care at home, many families eventually transition to full-time inpatient nursing facilities.
