Demerina Uwamang reunited with family after kidnapping in Mimika

Demerina Uwamang, a victim of a kidnapping by an armed criminal group in the Jila District of Mimika Regency, has been reunited with her family in Timika. Her return followed 12 days of medical observation and treatment at Bhayangkara Mimika Hospital to ensure her physical stability.

Uwamang was one of nine residents abducted on August 17, 2026. While she was successfully evacuated via a police helicopter from the Alama District on September 14, one other victim, Yosina Tsenawatme, was found deceased. The Damai Cartenz-2026 Task Force indicated that they are continuing searches for the remaining seven victims who have not yet been located or evacuated.

Authorities stated that the safety of the victim remained the priority during the evacuation process, which faced delays due to weather, difficult terrain, and security concerns. Police will also involve trauma healing teams to monitor Uwamang’s psychological recovery.
