Demetrious Johnson questions Movsar Evloev's UFC status
UFC Hall of Famer Demetrious Johnson has questioned why featherweight contender Movsar Evloev remains with the promotion despite a lack of finishes. While Evloev holds a 20-0 professional record, including a 10-0 run in the UFC, all of his Octagon victories have come via decision rather than knockouts or submissions.
Speaking on the ‘Precision with Mighty & Izzy’ podcast, Johnson contrasted Evloev’s status with the recent departure of Michael Page, noting the UFC’s tendency to release fighters who are perceived as lacking excitement. Johnson expressed surprise that a grappler without stoppage wins has maintained his position in the roster.
Alexander Volkanovski, who is scheduled to face Evloev at UFC 333, defended the contender. Volkanovski suggested that Evloev’s lack of finishes is likely the reason he has had to take a longer path to a title opportunity, noting that the fighter’s wrestling and grappling make him a significant competitive threat.
