Demi Vollering claims first Giro d'Italia Women stage win

Dutch rider Demi Vollering won her first stage at the Giro d'Italia Women on stage five, a 146 km mountain route from Longarone to Santo Stefano di Cadore. She outsprinted a four‑rider group that included race leader Anna van der Breggen, who finished second and retained the pink jersey, as well as Antonia Niedermaier and Isabella Holmgren.

Vollering said her team executed the plan perfectly, with early breakaway efforts by teammates Amber Kraak and Lauren Dickson helping to position her for the decisive move on the final climb. The win gives her a crucial boost in the overall contest, while van der Breggen continues to defend the leader’s tricolor jersey.

The stage featured multiple steep climbs, including the Passo di Sant’Antonio and the Costa da San Nicòlo, and highlighted the ongoing rivalry between the two Dutch cyclists as the race moves toward its remaining mountain stages.
