Demi Vollering wins women's road world championship in Montréal

Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering won her first career road world championship title at the UCI Road World Championships in Montréal. Following an intense 180-kilometer race, Vollering secured the victory in a sprint finish against Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, who finished with the same time. Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini completed the podium, finishing four seconds later.

Vollering’s victory was marked by a high-stakes tactical approach. She launched a solo attack approximately 38 kilometers from the finish line on the Voie Camilien-Houde climb. Although the chasing group managed to close the gap to within thirty seconds before the final lap, Vollering demonstrated significant resilience to maintain her position and win the sprint. Analysts noted that her ability to remain calm under pressure was a key factor in her performance.

This win adds to a highly successful season for Vollering, which includes victories at the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. She is now set to defend her title at the upcoming European Championships.
